Excitatory and inhibitory A neurotransmitter can influence the function of a neuron through a remarkable number of mechanisms.

When glycine receptors are activated, chloride enters the neuron via ionotropic receptors, causing an Inhibitory postsynaptic potential (IPSP).

Every neuron is different.
