The tropical house gecko, Afro American house gecko or cosmopolitan house gecko (Hemidactylus mabouia) is a species of house gecko native to sub Saharan Africa.

You see something on it. It's not just to look like a gecko.

The same is true when we looked at this lizard running on fluidized sand.

It was the soft, almost gelatinous body of a small, aquamarine gecko.

Man So you're the first human being to officially emulate a gecko.

So there it comes down. There is a gecko at the end of that trajectory line.

A gecko can support its entire body weight with one toe.

Today we can manufacture structures that mimic the hairs of a gecko's foot.

And you can try this in the lobby, and look at the gecko inspired material.

The large psammodromus ( Psammodromus algirus ) is a species of lizard in the Lacertidae family.

You know, the toes of the gecko, curling and uncurling like the fingers of Michael Moschen.

This is the gecko's solution. They actually peel their toes away from the surface, at high rates, as they run up the wall.

They were so large that a patch of hairs about this size the gecko's foot could support the weight of a small child, about 40 pounds, easily. Now, how do they do it?

Another reason why animals have extraordinary performance, and can go anywhere, is because they have an effective interaction with the environment. The animal I'm going to show you, that we studied to look at this, is the gecko.
